About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to dive into the First English Civil War with *This Accursed Civil War*, a tactical battle game that puts you in command of five crucial clashes between 1642 and 1646. This marks the debut of GMT's acclaimed Musket & Pike Battle System series, which focuses on the peculiarities of 17th-century warfare, with a special emphasis on Command and Control. On the battlefield, your armies are divided into wings, each with specific orders that dictate the allowed actions for its units. Changing these orders is no easy feat, requiring impeccable coordination to achieve victory in the heat of battle. You'll command infantry brigades, cavalry regiments, and artillery batteries, each with its own tactical nuances. Detailed rules cover everything from cavalry charges and the use of pistols in skirmishes or close combat, to artillery grazing fire and various infantry fire techniques like advancing, retreating, and salvo firing. Player interaction is intense, and you can complete an entire battle in a single sitting. The included battles are Edgehill (1642), First Newbury (1643), Marston Moor (1644), Second Newbury (1644), and Naseby (1645), each with its own challenges and decisive historical moments. The second edition features updated rulebooks and playbooks, plus a variant scenario for Edgehill and revised counters, while retaining the essence of the original.
