About the game

What you do in a play session

Tinners' Trail: Expanded Edition delivers the 19th‑century Cornish tin and copper mining experience, now packed with everything missing from the retail version: two expansions – Emigration and Arsenic – and upgraded components. Each player runs a mining conglomerate, buying land parcels across the region through auctions. After acquiring a plot you survey it for tin or copper, spending work points and cash wisely. Once a mine is established, extraction begins: the deeper you dig, the higher the cost, but also the higher the potential profit. To curb expenses you can build improvements such as ports, train stations or drainage adits, though only a limited number of upgrades are available, creating competition for them.

Metal prices fluctuate during the game; timing your sales can multiply earnings. Excess cash can be invested in industries outside Cornwall – railways, factories, etc. – which grant victory points, and the earlier you invest, the better the return. The expanded edition supports 1‑5 players, includes a solo mode (Lord Wallace), reduces randomness by using board tiles instead of dice rolls, and adds dual‑use cards that give pre‑auction intel or post‑auction bonuses. Artwork, graphic design and components (color‑blind‑friendly custom meeples) have been refined, making the game smoother and more attractive. In short, Tinners' Trail blends strategic auctions, resource management and market speculation in a well‑themed historic setting, offering depth without overwhelming complexity.
