In Trajan, the acclaimed game by Stefan Feld, you are an influential Roman striving to expand your power and prestige during Emperor Trajan's reign. Prepare to delve into the complexity of Ancient Rome, where your decisions in areas such as politics, trade, and militarism will shape your destiny. The heart of the game beats with a Mancala-inspired mechanic, where you collect and distribute colored pieces on your personal board. Each turn, you choose one of six sections, pick up all the pieces from there, and distribute them one by one into subsequent sections, clockwise. The action you perform is determined by the section where the last piece lands. But the fun doesn't stop there! If the colors of the pieces in that section match those on an adjacent Trajan tile (which you may have placed in previous actions), you gain a bonus action, adding an extra layer of strategy to each turn. Your main goal is to accumulate victory points, and there are many ways to do it! In the Forum, you try to anticipate public demands to satisfy them and avoid penalties. In the Senate, you gain influence to vote on laws that grant victory points, seeking those that align with your long-term plans. With the military, you conquer regions in Europe, and the further from Rome, the more points they are worth. Trajan is a deep development game where every action carries weight, and the interaction between mechanics is the key to victory.
