About the game
What you do in a play session
Trans Europa is a quick, easy‑to‑learn train game that’s perfect for anyone who likes building rail networks without a mountain of rules. Each player gets five cities scattered across Europe and tries to link them with black or colored tracks. On your turn you lay one or two lines; the first player to complete a network of all five cities wins the round, while the others lose points for being too slow. The game uses a score‑and‑reset structure: you play 3‑4 rounds and the player with the most points at the end takes the victory.
The 2018 edition features a slightly tweaked map, moving all yellow cities to the UK and Scandinavia, and adds ferry spaces marked by double‑wavy lines. In those ferry zones you may place up to two tracks – even a colored one that only you can use – and the space only counts as complete when it holds two lines. The Vexation expansion (included in the TransEuropa+ version) introduces colored rails: each of six colors has three pieces that belong exclusively to the player who places them, adding a layer of blocking and racing tactics.
Games last about 20‑30 minutes and accommodate 2‑6 players. With a light weight (1.4/5) even beginners can jump in quickly, yet the race for routes and the handling of colored tracks give enough depth for seasoned gamers. If you enjoy connection, race, and fast‑paced play, Trans Europa is a solid pick for casual game nights.
