Step into 19th-century London, at the height of the Industrial Revolution, a brutal setting for those without money or luck. In Twist of Fate, you dive into the story of Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens' famous character, with the mission of finding a safe haven for him. Life in the city is harsh, full of crime and misery, and only fortune or luck can offer sanctuary. Your goal is to guide Oliver's destiny, accumulating Sanctuary points until you reach the mark of eight, ensuring his safety at Mr. Brownlow's house. The game is a fast-paced microgame full of twists, perfect for those who enjoy direct interaction. Each player starts with six iconic character cards from the novel, such as Artful Dodger, Bill Sikes, and Fagin. These cards are double-sided, with 'Gives' and 'Takes' effects. When you play a card to another player, they can gain or lose Luck or Shillings points. The twist is that the opposite side of the card affects the player who plays it! The key to turning the game around is to 'twist fate,' manipulating your Luck and Shillings cards. Whenever a player reaches 4 Luck or Shillings points, they advance their Sanctuary token. The first to reach the eighth point at Mr. Brownlow's house is declared the winner.
