About the game
What you do in a play session
Umbrella is an abstract strategy and puzzle game that makes you feel like a traffic director in New York, only with colorful umbrellas. Each player starts with a 4×4 grid of umbrellas, four of each of four colors. One umbrella of each color sits in a waiting zone to the left and right (shared with neighbors), another in the center (shared by all), and one below your own board (exclusive). You also have two piles of figure tiles, each showing a single‑color umbrella arrangement you want to create. On each turn, you take an umbrella from an adjacent zone and slide it onto your board, pushing another umbrella into the opposite zone. When you achieve a pattern that matches a visible figure tile, you place a score token in the matching color on your scorecard and pass the tile to the player on your left, who places it on their board. The game proceeds clockwise until someone runs out of tiles, reaches 10 tokens, or the token pool is exhausted. After each round, everyone scores: 2 points per token, bonus for groups of tokens (depending on the scorecard), and extra points based on the number of umbrellas in your personal waiting zone. What makes Umbrella fun is the blend of slide/push, grid coverage, and pattern‑building mechanics on a square grid that demands strategic thought and spatial visualization. The pace is quick—about 30 min per game—and the colorful aesthetic makes the experience visually appealing. If you enjoy logic games with a friendly competitive edge, Umbrella is a light, fun choice for 1‑4 players.
