About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready for an immersion into the Second Industrial Revolution with Unvention, a roll-and-write game that places you in the shoes of a visionary inventor! Imagine the turn of the 19th century, a whirlwind of world-changing innovations and inventions. You've been invited to the prestigious International Invention Exhibition, an event where brilliant minds compete to showcase their boldest creations. The prize? A future shaped by your own genius!
Over three intense days – Friday through Sunday – you'll dive into the creative process. Daily, you'll journal your designs, gather essential parts, and construct complex mechanisms to bring your most ambitious ideas to life. But pay attention: presentation is everything! The earlier your invention shines in the spotlight, the more impressive it will be. Timing is crucial, and every decision counts to capture the judges' attention and secure your place in history.
At the heart of Unvention lies a polyomino puzzle challenge, with a twist: you build the polyomino shapes yourself! The game revolves around three interconnected systems: the Journals, where you solve mini-Sudoku puzzles to gather wrenches (the resource for building); the Workshops, where you use these wrenches to assemble mechanisms from collected parts; and the Inventions, where the polyomino shapes of the mechanisms are fitted into specific patterns to maximize your victory points, with each invention having its own unique scoring criteria. It's a race against time and opponents to create the most spectacular invention!
