About the game
Patchwork Doodle captures the spirit of the original Patchwork in a roll‑and‑write format, challenging players to fill a 9×9 grid with polyomino shapes. At the start each player draws a unique polyomino card from the starter deck and reproduces the shape on their sheet. Every round a circle of polyomino cards is laid out and a rabbit marker is placed between two of them. When a player rolls the die, the rabbit moves forward that many spaces and the card it lands on is removed; all players must draw the indicated polyomino onto their grid. Once a preset number of cards have been played, the round ends, scores are tallied and a fresh set of cards is laid for the next round. Each player also has four special actions they can use once (one of them may be used twice): draw the card before or after the chosen one, split a polyomino into two pieces and place only one, fill a single 1×1 gap, or repeat any of the previous actions. These actions are marked off and cannot be reused, forcing careful timing of “wildcards”. Unfilled squares cost one point each, so the goal is to pack the pieces as tightly as possible. The game runs about 20 minutes, supports 1‑6 players, and has a light weight (1.3/5), making it perfect for quick puzzles, solo play, or relaxed group sessions. The blend of dice rolling, bingo‑style card selection, and paper‑and‑pencil writing creates a lively rhythm, while the cut‑and‑place strategy keeps the brain engaged until the final score.
