About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to embark on a historical journey to 1811 Chile! In Valparaíso, the atmosphere is buzzing: the port has just been declared a free trade zone, and the country is in the midst of its independence movement. As an influential citizen of the city, your goal is clear: turn Valparaíso into a commercial giant. To achieve this, you'll need to send merchants into the hinterland in search of valuable export goods and, at the same time, coordinate your ships to conquer new markets overseas. But don't think it's just about sending ships and you're done! The game demands very sharp planning. You'll have to decide every building and every trade route with great care, as time is a precious resource that flies—literally! Since actions are chosen simultaneously, you'll need to anticipate what your opponents will do and be ready to react. A poorly planned move can be costly, and if you try to change your strategy mid-game, prepare your wallet for the penalty. Furthermore, interaction is constant: one of your actions can completely change the costs or trading opportunities for all other players. If you enjoy denser strategy games, where long-term planning must coexist with the need to react quickly to board changes, Valparaíso is the place for you. And for hardcore players who crave extra pressure, there's even an hourglass variant to make your heart race while you plan your next big commercial move!
