About the game
What you do in a play session
Werewolf, also known as Mafia, drops players into a haunted village where a few residents hide a deadly secret: they are werewolves. Each participant is secretly assigned a role – Werewolf, Villager or Seer (a villager with investigative power) – while a moderator runs the game. Play alternates between night and day phases. At night, the werewolves silently pick a villager to kill, and the Seer may ask about another player's identity. At dawn, the slain villager is revealed and leaves the game; the remaining players then discuss, accuse, and vote on who they think is a werewolf. The voted player reveals their role and is also eliminated. Werewolves win when their numbers equal the villagers', whereas villagers win by eliminating all werewolves. No board, cards, or tokens are needed; just a large group (8‑24) and plenty of chatter. The mechanics blend bluffing, deduction, negotiation and voting, generating tension and laughs in equal measure. Because it’s purely verbal, the game fits any setting – parties, campsites or classrooms – and typically runs about an hour. Its low weight (1.38/5) signals simple rules, yet the social depth can surprise even seasoned party‑game fans.
