Get ready to dive into Wonderland like never before, as the Looking Glass has shattered, madness is draining from its inhabitants, and an imminent war approaches! In Wonderland's War, 2 to 5 players take on the roles of iconic faction leaders, such as Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen, the Jabberwock, and the Cheshire Cat. The game unfolds over three exciting rounds, each divided into two distinct phases: the Tea Party and the War.
During the Tea Party, you and your rivals gather for a seemingly peaceful afternoon tea, but don't be fooled! This is where the strategy begins. You move around the rondel, drafting cards to strengthen your forces, build defensive towers, upgrade your leaders, and recruit Wonderlandians to your cause. Keep an eye out for the Looking Glass shards scattered across the board, as they can bring unexpected consequences. Once all the plates are empty, the party ends, and the true battle begins.
The War phase is where the rubber meets the road. You'll use the forces you've gathered to fight in familiar Wonderland locations. The 'bag building' mechanic is central here, where you draw tokens from your bag to determine your combatants. But beware of the Madness tokens! Drawing too many can cause your supporters to flee, taking you out of the fight. You can focus on winning battles to control areas or try to complete quests that offer bonuses for set collection and region control. After three rounds of partying and warring, the faction with the most points is crowned the new leader of Wonderland. It's a fantastic blend of strategic planning, push-your-luck, and area control, all set in a visually stunning universe!
