About the game
What you do in a play session
ZAG is a super dynamic visual challenge that will test your mental agility and spatial perception. Each player gets a mini-board, five double-sided tiles, and a deck of cards featuring visual patterns to solve as quickly as possible. The goal is to fit the tiles onto your board to replicate the pattern on the card, with a zig-zag twist that gives the game its name. The cards indicate how many tiles you need to use, ranging from two to five, and believe it or not, even two-tile puzzles can be surprisingly tricky! The game includes tutorial cards that are great for learning the placement rules: tiles must always stay within the board's limits, parallel to the edges (no diagonals!), and never overlapping. For beginners, ZAG offers a deck of 12 cards with hints, showing thumbnails of the pieces needed for each solution. But if you're already a puzzle master seeking a greater challenge, there's a set of 45 cards with no clues whatsoever, just the pure pattern for you to decipher! A game of ZAG unfolds in rounds. In each round, everyone receives a card and tries to solve the puzzle simultaneously. As soon as someone finishes, they flip their card and shout: "ZAG!". After everyone is done, it's time to check the solutions, and whoever got it right earns the card as a point. The game ends after one round for each tile count (from 2 to 5), and the player with the most cards (i.e., most points) wins. It's a fast, fun game, perfect for exercising your brain with family or friends!

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
How many players can play ZAG, and what's the average game duration?
ZAG is perfect for 1 to 4 players, and games are super quick, lasting between 5 and 25 minutes. Ideal for a fast play session or to warm up before a longer game!
What's the complexity level of ZAG? Is it easy to learn?
With a BGG weight of 2/5, ZAG is considered light. The rules are simple to grasp, especially with the tutorial cards, but the challenge lies in the speed and perception required to solve the puzzles.
Is ZAG a good game for kids or for family play?
Absolutely! Being a visual and fast-paced reasoning game, ZAG is excellent for developing perception and mental agility across all ages. The hint cards help younger players get into the swing of things.
What are the main components of the game?
You'll find individual mini-boards, five double-sided tiles for each player, and two decks of puzzle cards: one for beginners with hints and another more advanced one without them.
Is there much player interaction during the game?
Interaction in ZAG is more indirect. Although everyone plays simultaneously and the race to be the first to shout "ZAG!" creates fun competition, each player is focused on solving their own puzzle. It's more of a 'who's fastest' interaction!
Does ZAG have a solo mode?
Yes! ZAG can be played individually, which is great for practicing your pattern recognition and agility skills, or simply for a personal challenge against the clock.
