About the game
What you do in a play session
Zug um Zug: Deutschland is the German edition of the classic Ticket to Ride — and it’s a standalone game, no extras needed. Here, you collect colored cards to claim routes between cities across the German map (yes, the same one as in Ticket to Ride: Märklin), building your own rail network to fulfill the secret destination tickets you draw at the start. Players score points for completed routes and objectives, but unfinished tickets dock points at game end. This German/Austrian version skips Märklin’s passenger-scoring mechanic and tweaks the number of destination tickets and train cards slightly — plus it includes the 'Globetropper' bonus card for extreme network domination. It’s Ticket to Ride with a distinct regional flavor: light, quick to teach, and dripping with early-1900s railway charm — when trains meant progress, adventure, and maybe a little chaos if someone stole your favorite corridor. Perfect for family nights, casual game groups, or even office outings… as long as no one holds a grudge over a well-timed route block.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Do I need Ticket to Ride to play this?
No — it’s fully standalone, with all components included.
Can I play with 5 people?
Yes — supports 2–5 players, with playtime scaling between 30–60 minutes.
Is language a barrier?
Text is in German, but symbols and colors are universal — so if you’ve played Ticket to Ride before, you’ll have zero trouble.
How is this different from Ticket to Ride: Märklin?
Same map, but no passenger mechanic, adjusted card counts, and includes the 'Globetropper' bonus card.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes — if you’re already familiar with Ticket to Ride. If it’s your first route-building game, maybe try the original first.
Is the map only Germany?
Primarily Germany (and Austria), with major cities and routes covering much of the country — not all of Europe, though.
Should I buy this if I already own Märklin?
Only if you want a cleaner experience (no passengers) or love collecting regional editions — otherwise, it’s very similar mechanically.
