About the game
What you do in a play session
5ive Straight is a deceptively simple board game that shines through the interplay of numbered cards and a 100‑hole peg board. The board is laid out as a spiral, starting with 1 in the centre and winding out to 100 at the edges. Each player starts with four cards drawn from a 1‑to‑100 deck, and you can never hold more than four cards. On your turn you may either play a card and place a peg on the exact number or on any higher empty number, or draw a new card. The goal is to line up five of your pegs consecutively—horizontally, vertically or diagonally—before anyone else does. The “any higher number” rule creates a nice tension: high cards (80‑90) let you quickly fill the outer ring, while low cards give you flexibility to block the crucial centre where most winning lines form. The game supports 2‑9 players, but it really shines in partnerships, where one player can occupy high spots while the other guards the centre. A quick 20‑minute playtime and a near‑zero learning curve make it perfect for families, kids, or anyone short on time. Though the rules are straightforward, the blend of hand management, pattern building, and occasional take‑that moments adds unexpected depth, ensuring each round feels fresh. If you enjoy abstract strategy or need a fast puzzle‑style filler, give 5ive Straight a try.
