Cóatl: The Card Game

A newly erected temple in the heart of an Aztec city must be adorned with paintings of feathered snakes – the legendary Cóatl – to honor the gods. To decide who will become the official painter, players compete for prestige by assembling the most beautiful and valuable serpent using cards. Each Cóatl consists of a head, a tail, and eight body cards, and the game unfolds over five rounds. On your turn you play two cards, create patterns on the Prophecy cards, and if another player already holds that pattern you can steal it and display it in front of you. Repeating the same pattern yields extra points and eventually lets you protect the Prophecy so it can no longer be taken. Temple cards add optional objectives that can boost your victory total. A solo mode offers an individual challenge, and the Golden Feathers expansion adds new cards and strategies that work with the base game. With simple rules, a 20‑30 minute playtime and a light weight (1.7/5), the game blends abstract strategy, hand management and pattern building, ideal for fans of quick puzzles and Aztec flavor.
