In 'A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition)', you are summoned to lead one of Westeros' powerful Houses in the eternal struggle for the Iron Throne. Prepare to dive into a universe of political intrigue, epic battles, and back-alley betrayals, all based on the acclaimed 'A Song of Ice and Fire' saga. Your main goal is to accumulate 15 power points before your rivals, whether facing a single opponent in a 'joust' or multiple players in a 'melee'.
Each player manages two decks: a draw deck and a plot deck. The draw deck is your tactical arsenal, packed with iconic characters like Tywin Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and Robb Stark, plus strategic locations, attachments, and events that you will use to dominate the battlefield. The plot deck, consisting of seven cards, is your master plan for each round. From it, you choose a plot card that determines your available gold, initiative, the strength of your challenges, and how many cards you can keep in hand. Plots can also trigger powerful effects that shape the entire round, such as a devastating wildfire assault or a call to the faith of the Seven.
This second edition brings several improvements over the first, with revised, updated, and new elements. Concepts like 'influence' and 'crests' have been removed to simplify learning, while keywords have been optimized to focus on the most interesting interactions. The timing system has been streamlined, adopting the Interrupt, Reaction, and Forced triggers, already tested and approved in other Fantasy Flight Games LCGs. Furthermore, the second edition introduces two new factions, expanding deck-building options and allowing for more focused and specialized strategies for your plot decks. It's an invitation to rewrite the history of Westeros with your own hands!

What is the ideal player count for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition)?
The game can be played by 2 to 4 players. For a more direct and focused confrontation, 2 players (the 'joust') is excellent. For a more chaotic experience full of alliances and betrayals, 3 or 4 players (the 'melee') is the way to go.
How long does a game typically last?
A game can vary quite a bit, but usually falls between 60 and 120 minutes. With experienced players and well-built decks, it might be a bit faster, but be prepared for intense sessions!
Is A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition) a complex game?
Yes, it has considerable complexity (BGG weight of 3.53/5). The learning curve can be a bit steep initially, especially with the timing rules and card interactions, but the strategic reward is huge.
Do I need to know the Game of Thrones story to play?
It's not strictly necessary, but knowing the universe and characters from 'A Song of Ice and Fire' certainly enhances the experience. You'll better understand the references and the 'personality' of each House and character.
Are the components collectible like in Magic: The Gathering?
Not exactly. It's a Living Card Game (LCG), meaning expansions come with a fixed set of cards. You know exactly what you're buying, without the randomness of 'booster' packs from traditional collectible card games (CCGs).
What are the main differences from the first edition?
The second edition simplifies several rules, removes concepts that didn't work well (like 'influence'), streamlines keywords, and introduces a clearer timing system. Additionally, it adds two new factions and offers more flexibility in building plot decks and combining factions.
Who is this game recommended for?
It is highly recommended for 'Game of Thrones' fans looking for a strategic card game with lots of direct interaction, bluffing, and the ability to build and customize their own decks. If you enjoy games with a strong theme and tactical depth, you'll love it!
