About the game

What you do in a play session

In Above and Below, you and your friends embark on a journey to rebuild a village after a devastating barbarian attack. After a long and arduous journey, you find the perfect spot for a new home. But the surprise comes when you discover a vast network of underground caverns, brimming with treasures and unexplored adventures! Why limit yourself to the surface when there's an entire world waiting down below? The game is a clever blend of village building and storytelling elements. Your goal is to erect the most prosperous village, both above and below ground. To do this, you'll send your villagers on various tasks: exploring mysterious caverns, gathering valuable resources, and constructing new buildings. Each villager has unique skills, and the key to success is using them strategically. On your personal village board, you slide villagers to work areas, deciding who goes on dangerous underground expeditions and who stays on the surface, perhaps training new residents. The most exciting part happens when a group of villagers ventures into the depths. One of your friends reads a paragraph from a storybook, describing what happens. You then need to make crucial decisions about how to react, and success (or failure) will depend on which villagers you brought and what you're willing to sacrifice. These adventures are always different, ensuring each exploration is a new surprise. In the end, the player with the most developed and prosperous village wins!
