In Archon: Glory & Machination, you step into the shoes of a powerful Archon, an influential noble seeking the favor of King Rhodrig in the kingdom of Cardis. The kingdom, though rich and powerful, lives under constant threat from invaders, making reconstruction and defense top priorities. Your mission is to help the kingdom thrive by managing resources, rebuilding the city, recruiting soldiers, and investing in science and arts. The game unfolds over three 'Seasons', each with specific demands from the king that must be met to accumulate victory points. Each Season is divided into rounds where you'll use a clever card-driven worker placement system. You'll manage your hand, deciding which actions to prioritize – whether it's gathering resources, increasing your income, training elite warriors, or acquiring scoring cards representing scientific and artistic advancements. Secret unit deployment adds a tactical layer, while building your deck or action pool allows you to optimize your future strategies. The game culminates after nine rounds, with the most influential and victorious Archon crowned with the king's favor. It's a game with considerable strategic depth, ideal for those who enjoy planning and developing an economic engine in a medieval setting.
