Babylonia sets the stage in the height of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, with Nabuchodonosor II reigning and the region blossoming into a true playground of prosperity. You take on the role of a clan leader tasked with making your people thrive under the sun of the Middle East. The board is a hexagonal map covering the region, and each hex can be conquered, irrigated, or linked to other cities. To do this, you must place your nobles, priests, and craftsmen in strategic spots. When these tokens sit near a power center, you gain special powers that can swing the game in your favor. Additionally, peasants can be allocated to fertile areas; proper irrigation boosts grain production, which in turn earns points. The Area Majority / Influence mechanic rewards whoever controls the most territory in a region, while Chaining lets you link actions to maximize efficiency. Hand Management forces you to decide when to use your cards, and Network and Route Building encourages the creation of trade paths between cities. Open Drafting gives each player a chance to pick cards from a common pool, adding tension to resource selection. Sudden Death Ending can cut the game short if a condition is met, requiring you to always watch the clock. Finally, Tile Placement lets you position tiles to control zones, and Variable Set-up ensures each game is unique, as the initial layout can change. All of this blends into a game that mixes strategy, planning, and a touch of unpredictability, with the feel of being at the heart of ancient Mesopotamia. The winner is the one who accumulates the most points at the end of the rounds, proving who truly mastered the art of administration and diplomacy in the ancient world.
