About the game

What you do in a play session

Boreal puts two bold women on a quest through the remnants of an ancient world where nature has reclaimed the cities and writing has vanished. Each game starts with a common river of cards from which players may draft or reserve cards representing ruins, resources, and fragments of knowledge. As you gather resources, your access to the river expands, letting you see more options or even the entire pool. The goal is to assemble sets of cards that deliver the most knowledge; when one player reaches ten cards in hand, the round ends and the player with the highest knowledge score wins. The playtime is brisk—15 to 20 minutes—and the learning curve is gentle, with a weight of 1.4/5, perfect for a thematic experience without heavy rules. Open drafting creates a constant tug‑of‑war over valuable cards, while set collection and tile placement add a layer of territorial strategy. The environmental and exploration theme reinforces the feeling of uncovering forgotten ruins, and being a two‑player‑only game ensures tightly balanced duels. In short, Boreal is a light, thematic card game that blends exploration, set collection, and quick duels for two.
