About the game
What you do in a play session
The Car Wars Compendium gathers, in a single volume, everything you need to dive into the chaotic clash of armed vehicles. The book includes the rules from the Deluxe edition, Boat Wars, Dueltrack, and Uncle Albert's catalogs up to the year 2039, all revised and streamlined for faster play. You can design everything from race cars, trucks and vans to motorcycles, trikes, helicopters, boats and hovercrafts, customizing weapons, armor and engines. The volume is well organized, with an index and eight extra pages of charts and tables that make on‑the‑fly reference a breeze. Three versions were released: the first edition (1989) consolidating car, truck and cycle rules; the second edition (1990) adding errata and Dueltrack race cars, effectively becoming the fourth official edition; and the 1996 printing, often called CWC2.5, featuring new artwork and further corrections. The system uses a hexagon grid for movement, allowing six‑directional maneuvering and precise range calculations. Each game pits 2‑8 players in an arena where anything goes – laser fire, fuel explosions, you name it – with the goal of surviving, eliminating opponents, or winning deadly races. The Compendium serves as a quick‑reference manual, perfect for veterans of the Car Wars universe or newcomers ready to jump in without hunting down multiple books. While the text is hefty and may need a solid translation for non‑English speakers, the depth and flavor reward anyone who loves tactical combat, vehicle customization, and that futuristic action‑movie vibe.
