About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready for an adventure in unknown lands with Carcassonne: The Discovery! This standalone version takes you far from medieval France, exploring new landscapes like mountains, seas, and meadows. The dynamic is the classic Carcassonne: you place a tile, form a landscape, and, if you wish, position one of your four followers to claim the area. Robbers in the mountains, sailors on the seas, and explorers in the meadows – each has their role! The big difference here is that scoring doesn't happen automatically when a region is closed. You decide the right time to remove your follower and secure points, leading to much more tense strategic decisions. Mountains still hold a secret: they can continue to grow in value even after being completed! It's a more simplified experience than the original, but it doesn't sacrifice depth. Perfect for those who want a more straightforward Carcassonne, but with that strategic flavor we love. If you enjoy planning every move and relish a good dilemma, this discovery will be a treat!
