Step by step

1. Objective of the Game

The CDG Solo System is a tool designed to streamline two-handed solitaire gameplay for card-driven strategy games. It allows you to control both sides of a conflict by organizing your play space and limiting your decision space, thereby increasing narrative immersion as historical battles unfold on your tabletop. The system is not a bot; you remain the player responsible for making the final strategic decisions for both sides.

2. Preparation (Setup)

Before beginning, consult the game-specific Playsheet for any setup instructions or Standard+ modifications. Follow these steps to prepare the system:

  • Setup Card Displays: Place the two Card Displays near the game board. Check the Playsheet for the Max Hand Size and place the Max Hand Size marker on the corresponding number on each side's Cards Remaining track. Place the Cards Remaining marker on the track below it.
  • Setup First Hand:
    • Single Deck CDG: Place the shared draw deck off-board. Deal one card face-down into each of the five slots (A-E) on both Card Displays, alternating between displays.
    • Dual Deck CDG: Place the side-specific draw deck in slot C of its respective Card Display. Deal one card face-down into the remaining open slots (A, B, D, and E).
  • Flip Cards: Regardless of the deck type, flip the cards in slot A and slot B face-up on each Card Display.

3. Fluxo do Jogo

The game follows the standard sequence of play for your specific CDG. During the Strategy Phase (or equivalent), determine which side starts and alternate turns using the following procedure:

  1. Roll Fate Die: If the Active Side has Cards Remaining, roll the Fate Die. If the Cards Remaining marker is at zero, the side has exhausted their hand; if both sides are at zero, the Strategy Phase ends.
  2. Consult Result Chart: Use the Result Chart on the Playsheet to determine which cards are available for selection based on the die roll.
  3. Play Selected Card: Play the chosen card according to the game's rules.
  4. Discard Card: Discard the played card unless the card text dictates otherwise (e.g., removal from the game).
  5. Refill Card Slot: Draw a new card from the draw deck to fill the empty slot. Consult the Playsheet to determine if the card is placed face-up or face-down.

4. Ações e Como Jogar

When it is the Active Side's turn, you must select a card to play based on the Fate Die result:

  • Available Options: The Fate Die limits which slots (A-E) are available. If multiple face-up cards are valid, you must choose which one to play.
  • Event Cards: If directed to play an event, it must be a legally playable event for the Active Side. It cannot be played for its Operations Value unless it is also the lowest-valued Operations card currently face-up in the display.
  • Operations Cards: If directed to play the lowest-valued Operations card, you must identify the lowest value among all face-up cards. If there is a tie, you may choose between the tied cards.
  • Tracking: After playing a card, move the Cards Remaining marker one space down the Cards Remaining track. Do not slide the marker if the card play leads to an immediate card draw.

5. Fim de Jogo e Pontuação

6. Dicas para Vencer

  • Strategic Deliberation: While the Fate Die limits your options, you often have two or more valid cards to choose from. Use this flexibility to play each side as effectively as possible.
  • Check the Playsheet: Always refer to the Playsheet for your specific game, as its rules and explanations supersede the general CDG Solo System rules in the event of a conflict.
