About the game

What you do in a play session

Prepare to dive into the turbulent conflict of the Algerian War (1954-1962) with Colonial Twilight! This game from the acclaimed GMT Games COIN series, now redesigned for two competitors, puts you in the shoes of either the Front de Libération Nationale (FLN) or the French Government. As the FLN, your mission is to build massive and lasting popular support, organizing resistance for the day of independence. As the Government, the challenge is to contain the nationalist insurgency while maintaining the loyalty of the population and colonial authorities. Each player will employ military, political, and economic actions, leveraging events and maneuvering forces to influence and control territory and people. This war isn't just about tanks and soldiers; it's about subversion, torture, coups, and forced migrations – a dark and complex portrayal of a conflict that marked the end of the French Empire. The order of actions can shift each round, and every decision matters, as initiative can easily slip away. For solo players, there's a solitary mode where you face a bot controlling the FLN (playing as the Government against the insurgent bot is the only solo option). Colonial Twilight is a tense and immersive game, demanding careful planning and offering a deep experience for fans of wargames and historical games.
