During your turn, you have two strategic options: add a new coral piece to the growing structure or move your coral pawn. The pawn is crucial, as it guides the expansion of your species, allowing you to place new pieces only in its vicinity. Your pawn's movement freedom is almost total, but with one important rule: it can never cross or occupy a space already filled by members of its own species, after all, it doesn't want to harm its own growth! This restriction adds an interesting layer of planning, forcing you to think ahead and optimize each move.

At the end of the game, the beauty of the reef you've built is evaluated from a unique perspective. Players look at the structure from above, and the one whose coral pieces are most visible – receiving the most 'sunlight' – is declared the winner.
