About the game
Get ready for a zen and bamboo-filled adventure in Takenoko! The story begins when the Chinese Emperor gifts the Japanese Emperor an adorable giant panda, a symbol of peace. Now, the Japanese court, meaning you and your friends, have the honor and challenge of caring for this cute creature and, more importantly, its bamboo garden. In Takenoko, the mission is simple but full of strategy: cultivate land plots, ensure perfect irrigation, and grow three types of bamboo – green, yellow, and pink. And don't think it's just about planting! You'll have the help of a super dedicated imperial gardener, but you'll also have to deal with our panda friend's insatiable appetite. He loves juicy, tender bamboo and will eat it without mercy! The game is a race to see who can best manage their plots, making the bamboo grow tall and strong, while satisfying the panda's hunger. Each player receives objective cards that can be about cultivating plots of a certain type, growing bamboo to a specific height, or feeding the panda with various colored bamboos. On your turn, you roll a weather die that can give you a special bonus, and then perform two different actions, such as placing new plots, irrigating, moving the gardener to grow bamboo, or moving the panda to eat. It's all about balance and planning to achieve your objectives before others. Whoever gets the most victory points at the end, expertly caring for the garden and the panda, takes the crown as the best imperial caretaker!
