About the game
What you do in a play session
You know that delightful chaos of lying to your friends' faces in Coup? Well, the Buffoon and Bureaucrat promo cards arrive to further mess up the table and add layers of malice to the game. These cards aren't independent new characters, but rather strategic replacements for well-known figures, shifting the dynamics of who holds power in the court.
The Buffoon (or Jester) takes the place of the Ambassador and introduces the 'Disorder' mechanic. When you claim this role, you can draw a card from the deck and simultaneously target another player. The twist is that you can secretly swap one of your cards with one of the two cards received, returning one to the deck and the other to the chosen player. It's a game of swaps and bluffs: you might be trying to clean up your hand or plant a bad card for your opponent. But be careful! The target can challenge your claim, and if you're caught lying, you simply draw from the deck without stealing anything. Furthermore, if the target is a Captain, they can use their authority to block the theft.
The Bureaucrat, on the other hand, replaces the Duke, bringing new nuances to resource management and influence. These promo cards are perfect for those who have mastered the base game and feel the matches have become predictable. They force players to rethink their bluffing strategies, as traditional roles now have variants with different behaviors. If you love watching your friends try to guess who is lying while you manipulate everyone's hand, these additions are essential. It's that touch of unpredictability that transforms a quick match into an intense psychological war, where memory and audacity are your best weapons.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Do I need the base game to use these cards?
Yes! They are expansions (promos) meant to replace cards from the original game; they don't work standalone.
Does the game become harder with these cards?
The basic complexity remains the same, but the bluffing becomes more sophisticated since roles can now vary.
How many players can use the promo cards?
The game still supports 2 to 10 players; the cards simply alter the court's composition.
Is the Buffoon better than the Ambassador?
Not necessarily better, but more 'chaotic'. While the Ambassador swaps cards, the Buffoon manipulates others' hands.
Do matches take longer?
Not significantly. Playtime remains between 10 and 20 minutes, but the tension increases.
