About the game
Brace yourself for a tense survival journey filled with moral dilemmas in Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game! This is the inaugural title in Plaid Hat Games' acclaimed "Crossroads" series, plunging 2 to 5 players into a fragile survivor colony in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by flesh-craving zombies. Here, cooperation is vital, but mistrust is a constant companion. Each player takes charge of a faction of survivors, with dozens of unique characters in the game, and must work together to achieve a common colony objective. But here's the twist: to truly win, each player also has a personal secret objective. These objectives can range from something harmless to a dangerous obsession, a sabotage plot, or perhaps even vengeance against the other survivors! This means the game can end with everyone winning, some winning and some losing, or even the total defeat of the colony. It's a true psychological test, where you must balance the common good with your own interests, without letting a selfish "loudmouth" ruin everything. Dead of Winter is an immersive, narrative-driven experience about enduring a harsh winter in a world in ruins. Characters grapple with their own internal dilemmas while trying to fend off external threats, resolve crises, scavenge for supplies, and keep the colony's morale high. Decisions are frequent, difficult, and heavily thematic, forcing you to choose between what's best for the group and what's best for yourself. Oh, and if betrayal isn't your cup of tea, the rulebook includes a fully cooperative variant where everyone unites without personal goals.
