About the game

What you do in a play session

Dominion: Hinterlands arrives as the sixth expansion to the celebrated Dominion series, adding 26 new Kingdom cards – 20 Actions, 3 Treasures, 3 Victory, and 3 Reactions – that spice up the classic deck‑building formula. Its standout feature is the set of cards that trigger an effect the moment you buy or gain them, delivering instant bonuses that can swing the game in an eye‑blink. The expansion also retains Dominion's core mechanics such as deck building, hand management and open drafting, while introducing a "delayed purchase" element where some cards let you plan benefits for later turns.

The game remains quick (around 30 minutes) and moderately light (weight 2.5/5), perfect for 2‑4 players who enjoy light‑to‑moderate strategy. Each match starts with a tiny deck of copper, village and province, and players acquire Kingdom cards to improve their deck. Hinterlands' new cards offer options like gaining resources when buying distant territories, swapping cards between decks, or scoring victory points in unconventional ways, opening fresh paths to win and increasing strategic variety.

If you already love Dominion, Hinterlands expands strategic choices without overcomplicating the rules. For newcomers it pairs nicely with the base set, though the cards are still in English, so a translation aid may be needed. In short, Hinterlands is a flavorful upgrade that adds immediate‑effect cards, more decision points, and keeps the smooth flow that made Dominion a card‑game classic.
