About the game
What you do in a play session
DualHex is a super clever twist on the classic Hex, but with a mechanic that doubles your winning possibilities! Here, each piece doesn't just have a color, but also a shape, creating four types of pieces: white disc, white cross, black disc, and black cross. The game is played on a rhombus-shaped Hex board, and the cool thing is that the size can vary, which already adds a different touch. The objective is the same as Hex: connect opposite sides of the board. The White player tries to link the top and bottom edges, while Black aims for the left and right edges. But the big innovation is that each player has TWO independent ways to win! White wins if they connect the edges with a chain of white pieces (regardless of shape) OR with a chain of discs (regardless of color). Black, in turn, wins if they connect the edges with black pieces OR with crosses. On each turn, you choose two different types of pieces and place one of each on empty cells. Yes, you can even place pieces of your opponent's color, which opens up a very interesting range of strategies! On the very first turn, White has a special rule and places only one piece. Victory is checked after each piece is placed, and if a move completes both players' conditions, the player who made the move wins. Oh, and just like in the original Hex, there are no draws here; the strategy is pure and direct!
