About the game

What you do in a play session

In Eiyo, you step into the shoes of a lone samurai engaged in a desperate fight for survival against waves of enemies. This is a compact, pocket-sized game, but don't let the size fool you: it demands strategy and nerves of steel. The premise is straightforward yet brutal: you must accumulate 40 honor points by defeating opponents while managing your weapon deck, which doubles as your health bar. If your deck runs out for the third time, it's game over. Gameplay is split into two distinct phases. During the samurai phase, you manage a hand of up to six cards to either attack or defend. Attacking requires discarding the correct card for the enemy's position, while deflecting is a tactical maneuver: you avoid immediate damage from a row but sacrifice the honor points you would have earned by defeating them. In the enemy phase, the pressure mounts. Any row not neutralized by a deflect token will strike back, forcing you to discard cards from your weapon deck. It's a constant exercise in risk and reward. Is it worth taking out that enemy now, or should you save the card for a more critical moment? The game also adds extra flavor with the Yamabushi mini-expansion, included in the box, which introduces four challenging bosses to raise the stakes of your journey. With a quick learning curve and lightning-fast setup, Eiyo is perfect for those seeking a solo challenge that is fast, tense, and fits on any table. It's one of those games where every discarded card hurts, and victory depends entirely on your ability to read the battlefield before your strength runs out.
