About the game
What you do in a play session
Picture yourself and your friends trapped in a freezing night, and the only way to survive is to keep a fire alive. In The Coldest Night, each player has a deck of cards representing different kinds of fuel—wood, coal, kindling, and more. When you play a card, it adds heat to the fire, but it can only be used if the temperature is already above a certain threshold, forcing careful planning. The fire, meanwhile, is constantly at risk of going out; each round the temperature drops, and if it falls too low the game ends. The challenge is to sequence your cards so that all can be burned before the heat disappears. It’s a cooperative game where everyone must coordinate their moves, because each decision affects the global temperature. The “Move Through Deck” mechanic makes the order in which cards are revealed crucial, and the fact that the game is quick—about 20 minutes per session—keeps the tension high. Even without a physical temperature counter, the game offers a tense and engaging experience, perfect for those who enjoy planning challenges and survival themes. The digital version on Tabletopia adds convenience, letting you play online when the snow is outside. Although the game has a moderate language dependency, translated cards or a reference sheet ease the experience for Portuguese speakers. In short, The Coldest Night is a card‑based cooperative game that tests your ability to keep the fire burning while dealing with the constant chill.
