About the game
What you do in a play session
In Evo – Second Edition, you take on the role of a nomadic people living in perfect harmony with a group of primitive reptiles. The setting is the vast, unpredictable world of Kumgath, where seasons change every round and the climate can swing from ally to foe in the blink of an eye. To ensure the survival and prosperity of your tribe, you must use your biology knowledge to pick mutation genes that best fit the current conditions. These genes are won in auctions, where each player bids with their mutation points. The more points you can spend, the better your chances of securing the advantage you need. Gameplay revolves around three core pillars: strategic area movement, resource bidding, and the use of unique powers each player receives at the start of the game. Every turn begins with the reveal of a climate token; the climate can force the removal of dinosaurs, alter gene availability, or trigger events that marshal the battle. Combat no longer relies on ordinary dice; the battle die has symbols that replicate the odds of a six‑sided die but with a tie possibility that, depending on horn differences, can result in an opponent’s dinosaur being removed. The final goal is simple: accumulate the most mutation points by the end of the game, when a devastating meteor shuts it all down. Victory‑point‑as‑a‑resource dynamics make each mutation point both a score and an investment in new adaptations. The balance of risk and reward, coupled with the variety of auction strategies, guarantees that every game feels fresh. If you enjoy tactical decisions, evolving giant creatures, and battles that depend on both luck and planning, Evo offers a challenge that will test your patience and cunning.
