In Primordial Soup each player commands a primitive "amoeboid" species that competes for nutrients and evolution. The board is a grid‑based aquatic environment; organisms move either by drifting or by self‑propulsion, with Grid Movement and Dice Rolling determining placement and feeding success. Each round, all amoebas drift, feed on the waste of others, then the environment changes randomly via a climate card that shifts drift direction and may strip away some genes. Players can then purchase new genes that grant powers such as better movement control, more efficient metabolism, faster reproduction, or attack and defence abilities. After gene acquisition comes reproduction, death of some organisms, and scoring. The cycle repeats until a player scores 42 points or the environment cards run out. The game blends Bias (certain genes are easier to obtain), Variable Player Powers, and a light ecological strategy, all wrapped in simple rules and a 90‑minute playtime.
