About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to relive the tension of October 1780 with Flames Across the Valley: Second Edition! This is a completely updated version of the 1993 classic, arriving in 2026 with a fresh and exciting look. Forget the spinner; now luck and strategy roll with a six-sided die, accompanied by a redesigned map and components, plus revised rules for an even more immersive experience.

At the heart of the game, the British player takes command of an invading force in a race against time through the Schoharie Valley. The objective? Advance as quickly as possible, burning enemy homesteads and forts along the way. But surprise is key here: in each game, the placement of homesteads and militia is secretly determined before the start, ensuring the British player never knows how well defended the valley will be. It's a true dance between audacity and uncertainty!

Flames Across the Valley shines as a solo game, putting you in the role of the British leader on a challenging raid. However, it also offers the option for a second player to control the militia, deciding the right moment to ambush or take refuge in the forts. The recreation of Sir John Johnson's raid on the Schoharie Valley is detailed, with three forts defending the region. Can you take them down and scatter the defenders? Will the militia and Continental troops stand fast against the invaders? And most importantly: can you prevent every barn and house from being reduced to ashes? Prepare to return to that cold and snowy October 17, 1780, and battle once more for your side of history. Oh, and yes, the in-depth historical report of the raid and the biographies of key figures for both sides have been retained for history buffs!
