About the game
Ever thought about unifying an entire kingdom using only diplomacy and strategy? In 'For Northwood!', you take on this challenge in a solo game where the goal is to pacify the kingdom of Northwood. Forget about wars; here, unification happens through conversations with local rulers. The game unfolds over eight rounds, each focused on visiting a different fief governed by anthropomorphic animals.

The core mechanic is trick-taking, but with a twist: you don't just want to win; you need to win the exact number of tricks required by each ruler. If a ruler asks for three tricks and you win four, the conversation fails! Each fief has its own trump suit, making every encounter a unique puzzle. To help you on this mission, you start with four allies, each with a special ability that can manipulate your hand, allowing you to draw or discard cards to adjust your chances of hitting the target.

The game evolves organically: as you win over rulers, they can become your new allies, replacing the old ones and bringing more powerful abilities to tackle the harder fiefs. With 24 rulers available (you use 12 per game), various difficulty levels, and a booklet with 16 scenarios, the replayability is incredibly high. It's the kind of game perfect for those who love logical puzzles and the feeling of progression, all in a compact format. It's no surprise the title swept the 2021 BGG 54-card contest awards, winning Best Overall Game, Best Art, and Best Solo Game. If you enjoy the tension of predicting your hand and the satisfaction of solving a complex challenge on your own, Northwood is the place for you!
