About the game

What you do in a play session

Picture a Mech duel where every card represents an attack, a skill, or a speed boost—that’s what Hawken: Real-Time Card Game brings to the table. Inspired by the iconic video game Hawken, the designer kept the same adrenaline: real-time play, fast reflexes, and instant strategy. Each player builds a deck with primary and secondary weapons, propulsion systems, special abilities, and high-tech war gadgets. When the game starts, cards are drawn and played at the fastest pace possible; but beware: overusing them can overheat your Mech and cost you the fight. If you don’t want to play a card that turn, simply flip it face‑down and use it as cover, absorbing a bit of your opponent’s damage. The round ends when a player hits the “FIRE!” button in the center of the table, triggering the firing phase. Each Mech’s speed is calculated from the cards played, determining range and heat generated. The result is a tense battle where quick decisions and sharp thinking are as crucial as deck building. Hawken blends campaign and battle‑driven card mechanics with hand management and simultaneous action selection, creating a flow that demands constant attention. Though it’s a two‑player only game, the intensity of the duel makes every match unique and challenging. If you enjoy card games that require speed and want to experience the thrill of a real‑time Mech duel, Hawken can be a fun pick, but be ready for a learning curve and real‑time strategic adjustments.
