In Dreams is a slightly surreal solo storytelling game that drops you into a dreamscape brimming with vivid images and unexpected prompts. Each session starts by drawing cards that create a random character, its starting temperament, and a specific goal the character must achieve before waking. From there you draw Encounter cards, each offering two to four short prompts and a location, all illustrated with AI‑generated surreal art. Your task is to write, in real time, how the character reacts to the encounter, weaving in every prompt while nudging the story toward the goal. Some encounters trigger an Event; two Event cards determine what’s happening and the tone, also accompanied by dreamy artwork. The game flows by alternating Encounters and Events until the goal is met or the dream ends. With a quick 10‑20 minute playtime and a light 1.5 weight, it’s perfect for players who love crafting stories, exploring strange combos, and want a fast solo experience. No board or complex pieces are needed – just cards, paper, and a pen. The experience feels like a creative writing exercise boosted by visual cues that spark fresh ideas. Because everything unfolds in real time, the pressure to write quickly adds a dash of adrenaline, making each playthrough feel unique. If you enjoy narrative games, love surreal inspiration, and appreciate a solo challenge that doesn’t break the bank, In Dreams might become your new creative outlet.
