About the game

What you do in a play session

Get ready to dive into the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War with Land and Freedom! In 1936, right-wing generals, backed by Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy, rebelled against the Spanish Republic. To defend the nation, three factions – Anarchists, Communists, and Moderates – must set aside their differences and form an anti-fascist alliance. But the big question is: can you trust your allies when each has their own agenda? The game is a tense semi-cooperative experience for 1 to 3 players, where each round the fascists launch attacks on four fronts, with one being the main focus. Teamwork is essential to repel these attacks, but, surprisingly, sometimes a strategic defeat can yield unexpected benefits! Players use cards in two ways: to activate unique Events or to build their personal tableaus, setting up more powerful plays for the future. Each player manages two tracks that, when maximized, unlock bonuses and can earn medallions with immediate boosts or permanent upgrades. The faction controlling the Government holds the Initiative, unless the Anarchist Revolution is even more powerful! At the end of each turn, the player with the Initiative adds a token to the Glory bag. At the end of each of the three years of war, tokens are drawn for the final score. If the Republic manages to hold three out of four fronts, the faction with the most Glory wins. But if the war is lost, prepare for 40 years of dictatorship, where the only remaining options are death, imprisonment, or exile. A game that puts you at the center of one of history's most complex conflicts!
