About the game
What you do in a play session
Monolith Arena drops you and up to three friends onto a hex‑grid battlefield packed with strategy and flashy abilities. Each player picks one of the four Neuroshima Hex‑based factions, each boasting its own units and unique powers. The core loop revolves around drawing and placing hex tiles, building offensive or defensive lines that trigger when the board fills up or when a player calls a "battle" order. The standout feature is the three‑level monolith: the faction banner sits on top, while the two lower layers hide tokens that grant special abilities. When your monolith takes damage, the top layer falls, revealing the next token and its effect – getting hit can actually give you a tactical edge. This mechanic softens the randomness of tile draws, giving players more agency. A typical game runs 30‑45 minutes, has a light rule‑weight (2.4/5), and blends hand management, tile placement, and direct combat. Up to four players can join, and a team‑based mode lets two‑player pairs face off against each other. If you love quick fantasy skirmishes where every tile placement reshapes the board, Monolith Arena is a solid pick. Just be aware that player elimination can cut some people out early, so set expectations about game length beforehand.
