About the game

What you do in a play session

In Zimby Mojo, you step into the role of a powerful shaman leading a tribe of fierce, conniving cannibals known as Zimbies. Your ultimate goal? To become the next Cannibal King! This involves guiding your fanatically loyal (yet unruly) Zimbies to infiltrate the current king's stronghold, defeat him, snatch his Crown, and safely transport it back to your tribal board. The game features a fascinating shift in dynamics: the first phase is entirely cooperative, requiring all players to band together to gain access to the king's sanctuary. However, once the king is defeated, the game transforms! It becomes a free-for-all, with the first tribe to deliver the Crown to their board claiming the throne and winning. Trust is a scarce commodity in this world of bizarre creatures and cannibalistic ambition. You'll wield 'Mojo,' a mystical energy, to summon your Zimbies, move them across the grid-based board, and cast powerful spells using scrolls. Be warned: expending Mojo weakens your Zimbies or might even require cannibalizing them for a surge of power. Combat is resolved with dice rolls, and simultaneous action selection adds a layer of unpredictability. A challenging solo mode is also available to hone your strategies before facing off against other players. Prepare for cannibalistic chaos where cooperation and betrayal go hand in hand!

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

6 questions
How many players can participate in Zimby Mojo?
Zimby Mojo is very flexible, playable by 1 to 8 players. It offers modes for solo players as well as larger groups.
How long does a game typically last?
Game time can vary significantly, from 20 minutes for quicker sessions to up to 150 minutes for those who want to delve deep into strategy and chaos.
Is the game difficult to learn?
The complexity is moderate (BGG weight 2.88/5). The basic rules are accessible, but mastering the tactics, especially the shift from cooperation to competition, requires a few plays.
Is the cannibal theme very intense?
Yes, the theme is quite present and explicit, with Zimbies devouring each other and the goal of becoming the Cannibal King. If you or anyone in your group is sensitive to this type of theme, it might be worth reconsidering.
Do you have to cooperate all the time?
No! The first part of the game is cooperative, helping you reach the Cannibal King. But once he's defeated, the competition begins, and it's every tribe for itself to grab the Crown and win.
What is 'Mojo' and how does it work?
Mojo is the mystical energy you use to activate your Zimbies, move them, and cast magical scrolls. You generate Mojo each turn, but using it can weaken or even consume your Zimbies, so careful management is key!
