About the game

What you do in a play session

National Budget Werewolf is a fast‑paced card game that blends the tension of a hidden‑identity game with the excitement of trick‑taking. With four to six players, the goal is simple: the Prime Minister’s team tries to steal the national budget, while the influential team works to stop them. At the start, everyone bids on how much budget money they think they can win. The highest bidder becomes Prime Minister and assigns roles to each player.

The deck mixes three traditional suits with suit‑less money cards. The “pseudo‑may‑follow” mechanic lets you follow the leader’s suit, but you can also play a money card at any time; that card goes to the trick winner. Money cards are crucial: if you can’t follow and run out of money, you’re immediately exiled, but the money earned goes to another player. The 3s of each suit make the lowest card win the trick, while the 6s double the round payout.

When all cards are played, roles are revealed, money is tallied, and victory depends on whether the bid was met. The game lasts about 15 minutes, so the pressure ramps up quickly and instant elimination keeps everyone on edge. Though light, it demands attention to clues and betting strategy, making it ideal for fans of bluffing and social deduction. If you enjoy team games with political themes and want to try something that mixes cards, tricks, and hidden identity, National Budget Werewolf is a solid pick.
