About the game
What you do in a play session
More than two thousand years ago a loose federation of planets gave birth to the Galactic Empire, which expanded ruthlessly, enslaving or exiling any race that dared to oppose it. Now the empire is weakened by revolts and the exiled races are gathering on the galactic rim, ready to seize power. Omega Centauri puts 2‑4 players in charge of one of these rising races, racing in a 4X showdown to replace the old regime. The map is built from modular sector tiles; most sectors start under Imperial control, but the layout shifts with player count, guaranteeing a fresh board each game.
Each round, every player selects three of the five possible actions: Assemble fleets in sectors with shipyards, Build monuments, shipyards or planetary defenses, Move fleets between sectors, Take a Politics action to gain resources or increase fleet capacity, and Research technologies. In the base game players take turns picking actions until each has performed three, creating a lively mix of long‑term planning and tactical opportunism. The game ends after six rounds (about one hour) or nine rounds in the longer version (roughly two hours).
The advanced version adds upgraded technologies, racial powers, and forces players to declare all three actions and their order at the start of each round, demanding deeper foresight and opponent reading. Reserve Fleet actions let you spend spare fleets for extra moves, and the Politics system provides varied end‑game scoring goals. Victory points are earned by taking control of sectors, improving infrastructure and defenses, or expanding cultural influence. Omega Centauri offers a compact yet deep 4X experience packed with strategic choices and multiple paths to galactic dominance.
