About the game
What you do in a play session
In Origin Story, each player takes on the role of an aspiring superhero whose origin unfolds chapter by chapter. The game spans five rounds, each representing a stage of development: you draw a new card, place it on your tableau and "charge" it to use abilities ranging from brute strength to cleverness, love and speed. The goal is to score more points than your rivals after the five chapters, using a blend of trick‑taking and tableau‑building.
Cards have trick values and special effects; when a trick is played, the highest card wins the round and may trigger its ability, granting points, altering trick order, or meddling with opponents. Meanwhile you collect gadgets, allies, and a growing grudge against your arch‑enemy, represented by tokens that provide bonuses in the later stages. In the final chapter you unleash an ultimate ability that can flip the scoreboard.
The game supports 1‑5 players and includes an artificial player for solo play. Components consist of high‑quality cards, gadget tokens, and a small player board. The artwork mimics comic‑book panels with colorful speech bubbles, reinforcing the superhero vibe. A typical session lasts about 45 minutes and the learning curve is gentle – the DIZED tutorial and watch‑it‑played videos get you up to speed fast. If you love superheroes, trick‑taking mechanics and the thrill of building your own power panel, Origin Story offers a fun, strategic experience without being intimidating.
