About the game

What you do in a play session

Palace is that card game everyone knows by a different name — Shithead, Karma, or even Vändtia in Sweden — but the fun is the same: don't be the last one holding cards! With a traditional deck (and up to two jokers if six people play), the game mixes simple strategy with a bit of chaos. Each player starts with three face-up and three face-down cards, creating a personal mini 'palace.' The goal is to get rid of all your cards, but watch out: aces are powerful, while twos and tens have special effects that can turn the game around. If you can't play, you pick up the central pile — and that's when the panic sets in. When the deck runs out, it's time to attack the cards in your palace, flipping over the hidden ones. Whoever's left at the end is the round's 'joker' and even has to shuffle for the next game!

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

7 questions
How many players can play Palace?
2 to 6 players. With six, it's recommended to use two jokers in the deck.
How long does a game last?
About 20 minutes, but it can vary depending on the number of players and moves.
Do you need a special deck?
No, a standard 52-card deck (and optionally jokers) is enough.
Is it hard to learn?
Nope! The rules are simple, and after one round, everyone gets the hang of it.
Can kids play?
Yes, though some versions of the game have... let's say, less family-friendly names. Maybe invent a gentler nickname!
Is there a digital version?
Yes, it's available on Board Game Arena to play online.
What's the best strategy?
Save strong cards for the end and try not to be the first to empty your hand — the last one always gets stuck!
