HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
In Praga Caput Regni, you are an influential citizen in medieval Prague, at the height of Charles IV's reign, as he transforms the city into the capital of an empire. The king oversees the construction of grand projects like the Charles Bridge, a new university, and St. Vitus Cathedral, and you're there to help drive these projects and, of course, earn royal favor in the process! The game revolves around an ingenious 'action crane,' which offers six different options each round. The trick is that these actions have constantly shifting costs and benefits, forcing you to think carefully about which one to choose. You can use your actions to increase your resources, improve the effectiveness of your chosen actions, or invest directly in building important landmarks like New Prague City, the city walls, or even contribute to the majestic St. Vitus Cathedral. The big draw of the game is discovering how actions fit together and create powerful combos. Each move can generate a cascade of benefits, and the cleverest players will be able to optimize their turns to maximize points. Whoever impresses King Charles IV the most with their contributions and accumulated wealth will be the winner at the end of the game. Get ready for a strategic challenge where every decision counts!

What is the average playtime for Praga Caput Regni?
A game can vary quite a bit, but expect something between 45 minutes for two more experienced players and up to 150 minutes for a full game with four people, especially if it's your first time.
Does Praga Caput Regni play well solo?
Absolutely! The game includes a solo mode that offers an interesting challenge, allowing you to explore strategies and mechanics without the pressure of other players. It's a great way to practice!
What is the game's complexity level? Is it for beginners?
Praga Caput Regni is considered a medium-heavy to heavy game (3.73/5 on BGG). It has many layers and interactions, so it's not ideal for newcomers to the hobby. But if you have experience with euros, you'll love it!
Are the components of good quality?
Yes, the components are a highlight! The board is beautiful and functional, and the pieces are of excellent quality, which greatly contributes to the immersion and overall game experience.
Is there much player interaction?
Interaction is more indirect, typical of many eurogames. You'll compete for actions on the 'crane' and for areas on the board, but most of your focus will be on optimizing your own point engine. Don't expect direct confrontations.
What is the main differentiator of Praga Caput Regni compared to other city-building games?
The big differentiator is the action selection system with the 'crane,' which is always changing and forces you to adapt your strategy each turn. Plus, the way constructions interlink to generate bonuses is super satisfying!
