About the game
What you do in a play session
Ra: The Dice Game captures all the epic flavor of Knizia's original – pharaohs, the Nile, civilizations, monuments and dreaded catastrophes – but swaps the auction for a hefty dose of dice rolling. Each player controls five colored dice; the colors only matter in a few cases, like when a purple civilization can only be claimed with a green die. You roll, may reroll up to two times, and choose which dice to lock and which to reroll. One face is a joker that can act as any other icon, provided another die shows the needed icon. With the result you claim squares on the central board – civilizations, monuments, Niles, floods – or move the Ra figure, which dictates how much time remains in the epoch. The game runs three epochs, and scoring mirrors the classic Ra, now tracked on a side score track. At the end of each epoch, the appearance of Ra determines when the round ends, forcing you to decide whether to close early or gamble on more rolls. After three epochs, the player with the most points wins. A 45‑minute playtime for 2‑4 players, with a light complexity (weight 1.7/5), it’s perfect for those who love a historic theme without heavy rules. If you enjoy dice‑driven games that blend planning and a dash of luck, Ra: The Dice Game offers a thematic yet tactical experience.
