About the game
What you do in a play session
In Rival Restaurants, the culinary competition is heating up! Your goal is to be the first chef to accumulate 20 popularity points and be crowned 'The Wiener'. To achieve this, you'll need to buy and trade ingredients to prepare increasingly elaborate recipes. The more complex the dish, the more points it's worth, bringing you closer to victory. The game unfolds in 'days,' each with three crucial phases. First, in the 'Money and Move' phase, you collect your income and decide where your chef will go. Be careful: this choice is final for the day! Then comes the 'Buy and Barter' phase, a minute of pure adrenaline where you can buy ingredients from your current location and, even cooler, negotiate and trade with any other player at the table, no matter where they are. Finally, in the 'Cook and Counter' phase, it's time to turn your ingredients into delicious dishes and tally your popularity points. But there's more! Each player commands a chef with a unique asymmetrical power, allowing them to bend some rules in their favor. The base game already comes with twelve different chefs, and at the start of the game, each player chooses a restaurant, which offers a 'level-up' structure with rewards for reaching 3, 7, and 12 popularity points. And if you want to spice things up even more, you can buy action cards, which are single-use development cards capable of turning the game around when least expected. Get ready for a delicious and strategic race!

What's the best player count for Rival Restaurants?
The game shines with 4 to 6 players! With more people, the real-time negotiation phase becomes much more fun and chaotic, with more opportunities for trades and alliances (or betrayals!). It works with 2 or 3, but the interaction is slightly less.
How long does a game of Rival Restaurants last?
Typically, a game takes between 45 to 60 minutes. It's an ideal length for a lively game session that doesn't drag on, perfect for a game night with friends or family.
Are the chef and restaurant powers really different?
Yes, and that's one of the game's great features! Each offers a unique way to play and bend the rules, ensuring that every game is a different experience. This adds a lot of replayability and strategy.
Is there a lot of player interaction?
Absolutely! Interaction is at the heart of Rival Restaurants. The real-time negotiation phase is intense, and you'll constantly be bargaining, bluffing, and trying to get the ingredients you need from your rivals. Get ready for a lot of talking!
Are the components of good quality?
Yes, the game was a Kickstarter project, and generally, the components are well-produced, with vibrant art and pieces that match the fun theme. Cards, boards, and tokens are made to withstand many rounds of culinary competition.
