About the game
What you do in a play session
RPGQuest – The Hero's Journey brings Joseph Campbell's classic hero's arc into a medieval board littered with Kabbalistic symbolism. Each game starts by assembling 20 modular tiles that depict the 10 Sephiroth of the Kabbalah and 10 mythic locations, creating a map that reshuffles every play. 1‑5 players command small parties of adventurers – warriors, thieves, clerics or mages, each tied to one of the four alchemical elements – and chase fame and fortune across the Realms of Arcadia.
During a turn, a player may take up to four actions: recruit heroes, hunt for quests in taverns, extract mana, buy or forge magical items, travel between regions, fight wandering monsters, explore dungeons, resolve rumors or heal the wounded. The board hosts castles, villages, guilds, temples, the Elven Tree, an Orc camp, a goblin labyrinth and other points of interest, plus three Great Nemeses (hydra, cerberus, dragons, vampires, etc.) that appear according to challenge cards. As they progress, groups meet allies, powerful artifacts and even Major Arcana tarot cards, earning victory points. The final goal is to become the most famous and richest group in the four Realms before confronting the Ultimate Nemesis.
The game supports cooperative or competitive play, with a playtime ranging from 30 minutes (quick mode) to several hours (full campaign). With a BGG weight of 2.5/5, it blends dice‑rolling, modular board, pick‑up‑and‑deliver and storytelling mechanics, delivering a sandbox experience that satisfies both RPG fans and strategic board gamers who enjoy character development and narrative without a permanent campaign group.
