About the game
In *Seas of Strife*, a trick-taking game previously known as *Texas Showdown* and originally as *Strife*, your main goal is to skillfully avoid taking tricks. But don't be fooled: playing an off-suit card might not keep you safe, as the dominant suit can change during the trick, potentially stinging you in the end! The game kicks off with all cards distributed evenly among the players. Once the first player leads a trick with a single card, all other players must follow suit if they can. If a player can't follow suit, they can play any card of a different color. This is where it gets tricky: subsequent players can then play a card of either the original matching color OR the new color that appeared, or even a third color if they have neither of the first two. After everyone has played their card to the trick, you check which color was played most frequently. Whoever played the highest card of this dominant color wins the trick! If two or more colors are tied, the highest card overall wins. You play several rounds until someone reaches a target number of tricks taken. But here's the twist: whoever has captured the FEWEST tricks wins the game! It’s a fun inversion of traditional trick-taking mechanics.
